Leslie Lawson discovered her passion for fitness as a teenager. She was drawn by the ability of changing her body in very specific ways through exercising and lift-weighting. In 2001, while living in New York city, she first discovered Pilates.
"I loved the camaraderie of the group classes, the fact that hundreds of exercises can be performed in one piece of equipment, the fact that I was gaining flexibility as well as strength and I was working my core the entire session,” she said.
Pilates also had an important role in helping her recover from a serious shoulder injury.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Leslie decided to turn her love for fitness and Pilates into her career. After years working in the television industry, she opened her own Pilates studio, Renegade Pilates, in Miami, FL.
"I realized that having a boutique studio was something I really believed in and it was also something I could realistically do,” Leslie added.
The area of choice for Renegade Pilates was the Upper East Side neighborhood. A little north of the Midtown and the Design District, this charming neighborhood boasts modern architecture, local shops and restaurants and a very diverse crowd—a perfect fit for a boutique Pilates studio. "I’ve always been enthralled by this neighborhood, it’s very eclectic, there are so many cool mom and pop shops, cafés, restaurants in this area. It’s a really really exciting neighborhood.”
Renegade Pilates offers over 34 small group reformer classes weekly, as well as private sessions. Even during group classes, individual care and customization is offered depending on the student’s strength or past injuries. The studio offers traditional Pilates reformer sessions, as well as bootcamp-style classes and stretching. It’s recommended to both men and women, and even professional athletes. The befits of Pilates include better coordination, flexibility, cardio, and muscle strength, making it a great all around workout regimen.
"Our goal is always to offer a safe and effective workout to push you gradually towards your goals while keeping safe at the same time,” Leslie concluded.
Renegade PIlates, a proud customer of Spatially’s Managed Services, is located at 649 NE 79th St, Miami, FL.
