Sunset Shapers, San Francisco

Jul 13, 2018 11:10:23 AM

Founded in 2010 in San Francisco, Sunset Shapers prides to be a resource for local surf lovers, providing everything from accessories to custom surfboards. With over a decade of experience, founder James Mitchell manages and oversees the production of each and every board in shop.

For shop manager and shaper Chase Davenport, what makes the shop stand out amongst other surf stores in the area is their shaping classes.

"There are a lot of surf shops arounds here, there aren’t shops where you can make custom boards or learn how to shape a surfboard. The shaping lessons that we do are the thing that makes us unique, because we teach people in the community how to make surfboards and then we see them every day riding the boards that they made,” he said.

Chase himself learned how to shape boards at Sunset Shapers and is now teaching the craftsmanship to the local community.

Sunset Shapers also offers full-service glassing and repair to some of the area's most notable surfboard labels as well as the average backyard shaper.

Their goal is to spread knowledge to anyone interested in learning how to build their own surfboards and create the most fulfilling experience a surfer can have.

Sunset Shapers is located at 3896 Noriega St, in San Francisco, CA.
