Vicky’s House - Coconut Grove, FL

Oct 20, 2017 10:23:46 AM

Just like E.T., Matt Kuscher just wants to go home. And by home, we mean his childhood home from the 1980s, where he made some of his most cherished memories. Time travel is still not available to the general public, so Matt decided to create a universe of his own, attached to his hip restaurant LoKal. Vicky’s House, LoKal’s dessert shop, was first envisioned as a fun way to wait for a table at LoKal. Now its unique atmosphere and delectable milkshakes have turned it into a go-to spot for anyone with nostalgia and a sweet tooth.

“You always have to go back to where you come from. For me, that’s a hard-working family with integrity. And I built this to always remind myself of where I came from and to pay tribute to my mom and all the other moms out there,” says Matt.

Named after his mom, the Vicky’s House is a recreation of Matt’s family home circa 1986. Since Vicky kept many of her treasures from the past stored away, most of the items that create the vintage look of Vicky’s House came from Matt’s childhood home, including pictures, video cassettes, chandeliers, cabinets and toys. The distinctive wallpaper is an exact replica of the original, made by local artist Camilo Rojas.

“It’s a blast from the past. Absolutely everything here pays tribute to everyone who grew up in an ‘80s or ‘70s house,” said Zenobia Bhaijee, the general manager of both LoKal and Vicky’s House.

Vicky’s House is part of Kush Hospitality, the restaurant group behind LoKal, Kush, Miami Brew Bus and The Spillover. The group focuses on high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. They’ve partnered with local farmers and food providers including Salty Donut, Miami Smokers, Wynwood Parlor, Dasher & Crank and Lola’s Cupcakes, to name a few.

Their menu includes three specialty, over-the-top milkshakes named after some of our favorite ‘80s movies and shows, plus plain milkshakes, craft beer and much, much more.

Don’t miss the chance to be go back in time when you visit Coconut Grove. To get there, just walk through the phone-booth time machine inside Kush. Party on, dudes!

Vicky's House is located at 3190 Commodore Plaza, Coconut Grove, Florida.
